Society has made us identify what kind of Americans we are. I think I'm more aware of things like social inequality, social class, and the correlation between education and social class. Because being the “black” community in my community, we were taught that the higher the education the better the social class. My parents and grandparents constantly reminded me that education is important and is the key to success and achieving a better life. This is a topic of the article where Schaefer emphasizes independent and dependent variables. The independent variable is the level of education and the dependent variable is the level of income. From seeing this diagram in the article it correlates to what I have been taught to think my whole life. The amount of money you earn depends on how educated you are. So my parents always taught me to go to school because they believe that money is the key to a comfortable and successful life. This was the lesson my parents taught me, but I always question myself.
