If you looked closely at the population of the United States of America between the 1960s and 1990s, you would notice a significant rise and fall in the nation's population . If you look even closer at these statistics you will notice the population of murderers, especially serial killers were at the highest levels. Serial murders were at an all-time high during this quadruple decade of time. In 1960 the number slowly began to decline from less than ten to forty. Even worse, the number exploded to 120 in 1970. The number then rose to 200 in 1980. Luckily the number dropped to around 140. There seemed to be some sort of serial killer epidemic. from 1960 to 1980 and slowly decreased in 1990. The average homicide rate was 80%. In 1960, 9,000 murders were recorded, in 1985 18,980 and in 1992 a frightening average of 24,530. These statistics show the phenomenon of the serial killer epidemic. The population of serial killers increased dramatically in the late 1960s. There are several theories as to why the number peaked so high. The population boomed in the 1960s, producing more people. When you have more people, you have higher populations of different types of people, therefore increasing the population of serial killers. Crime investigations were not as advanced during the epidemic. Different cities and especially different states did not connect and very often shared their data on arrests and crime reports, prolonging the murderous career of these killers. There are several reasons or theories as to why the serial killer population began to decline during the 1990s. The collection of documents and other things... half of paper... he said to the executioner: "I would like you to offer my affection to my family and friends." Those were Bundy's last words. After the announcement of his death, the exact same people who rioted before his death were heard cheering with excitement and joy outside the prison where he was executed. Theodore Robert Bundy became one of the most notorious American serial killers of all time. In the four decades between 1960 and 1990, there was a significant increase in the serial killer population, creating something of a serial killer epidemic. This epidemic consisted of some very significant serial killers, the ones you see in movies and hear about in the media, killers like Ted Bundy. As the population has increased, the population of serial killers has increased dramatically. As technology has advanced, the capture of these killers has increased, saving the lives of many innocent Americans.
