Topic > Audio technician: hobby or profession - 1766

Music is a great passion of mine, I listen to it constantly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I don't play any instruments and I don't sing, but I know I want a career that involves music, and producing it seems to be the only way I can think of, that I would like. So I want to become an audio technician, also called sound engineer. Audio technicians are basically the nuts and bolts of music production: they set up the equipment, constantly adjust the knobs, and check the microphones. They make sure everything runs smoothly and always consult with their artists so that they are happy with the end result. To become an audio technician, there are actually no formal requirements to have any training. As long as you have a high school diploma or GED, you can study to become an audio technician by training with a professional technician. Some may self-educate, especially if they are already interested in computers and technology. But taking technology and music composition or theory classes really helps, along with learning to play an instrument. Most people seeking a career path in audio or sound engineering would choose to attend a technical school or undergo a year of professional training. Many community colleges and major universities offer courses. Technical colleges typically offer the best programs ranging from 9 to 12 months. Through them a person can obtain certificates and associate degrees in audio technology, audio production and engineering. Each job involves certain skills and abilities, depending on the engineering path a person chooses to pursue. Important skills such as listening to what others say, taking time to understand and understand what they mean and want, and asking th...... middle of paper ......ic and mixing all the elements into one only song. But in that session we also mastered the tracks, meaning that all the songs were final copies and went through another compression and equalization process and turned into CD copies. My final session with Kevin at Opal Studio involved working with a brand new client, Daniele Hamm. For that session we recorded drums and bass, set up our microphones and recorded drums and bass for each song. Again, it was a very tedious process; all I have to do is look at the layers and make sure everything runs smoothly. Overall, my experience was a lot of fun. I loved working with all the bands and artists. It's a very social job, which is fun, but the technology has killed me and a lot of it is pretty boring. I'm honestly not sure I would actually pursue this career, it would be a fun hobby, but I don't see myself doing it for a living.
