The trailer then continues with on-screen flash quotes that read "Inspired by the incredible true story of the unsung heroes whose courage tore down walls." When moving, the trailer was extremely inaccurate and overall confused me. Needless to say, I believe the film grossly misrepresents those who made up much of the movement, in the process erasing the hard work and struggle of the activists of the time. I am disappointed in the misrepresentation of LBGTQ people of color who led the gay rights movement in the 1960s-70s. I struggled to see any mention or highlighting of Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Storme DeLarverie, or Miss Major Griffin Gracy, all very well-known gay/trans/drag rights activists during this time. By not casting a transgender person of color to play Marsha P. Johnson, Stonewall's directing and producing team is erasing the history of the “Stonewall” movement as well as Marsha's leadership. I admit I don't know much about the road
