Anorexia nervosa is a worldwide disease that has affected the lives of men and women, including mine. For my 16th birthday my best friend Zoe came to Texas and stayed with my family for 2 weeks. I hadn't seen her in about 2 years and the Zoe I saw was not the girl I left behind in California 2 years ago. Zoe had struggled with anorexia since she was 8 years old, I didn't find out until 8th grade when she was hospitalized and tube fed for 3 weeks. He went to therapy and slowly started to get better and I really believed he was fine when I left; Seeing her like this I now understood that she wasn't well at all. It has been 8 months since the visit and Zoe has been hospitalized 2 times, once for extreme weight loss, once for attempted suicide because she would “rather be dead than look in the mirror every day”. Anorexia is something that not many of us take very seriously, but it can cause serious harm to your physical and mental health. There are many reasons that can play a role in anorexia.
