Becoming a mom when you're well along in your career, financially stable, and have a support team behind you still comes with many challenges. However, many girls are forced into much more difficult motherhood because they acquire this responsibility while still in high school. Being a mother enrolled in public school can be quite exhausting. As a result, myriad reasons ranging from lack of child care to discrimination cause approximately 60% of student mothers to drop out of high school before earning their high school diploma. This is extremely problematic because teen moms are already at a disadvantage in achieving their life goals, and dropping out of school statistically shows that the child will also be at an educational disadvantage.
