I will demonstrate how Roman architecture is a synthesis of Greek and Etruscan styles and how they have managed to survive to this day. We must go back before the beginning of Rome, to the Etruscan ancestors of the Romans, whose temples provided the foundation for Roman styles. with the knowledge that they began using wood for cullum and mud and bricks for the podium and structure to create simple rectangular temples. due to the very flammable materials used the temple was often burned and had to be rebuilt each time taking on a different shape. and by creating a tall podium that reached 13 feet in height they were closer to the good as they saw it. their temples were made of tricella, or three parts, for their god Jupiter and his two wives Juno and Minerva. the temples were built with a long portico to allow their faithful to pray inside the temple. the cullums were independent, that is, they were not attached to anything and the only purpose was to support the ceiling, another important resource of the Etruscans it was the one made the temples with a single staircase that gave the temple a facade. The first temple that the Romans had was the Roman optimus maximus built in one of the seven Capitoline hills and showed all the Etruscan characteristics, high podium, deep portico, independent columns and tricella. Following the Etruscan one must understand the characteristics of a Greek temple. the Greeks did not allow people to enter the temple and therefore their temples were designed to meet their needs. having independent columns with a circle...... in the center of paper...... due to its weight it sank. the dome being the largest in the world having a diameter of 142 feet makes the pantheon very large and finally the oculus, the hole in the center of the ceiling being round, allows light to enter. finally the survival of the Roman temples is all thanks to the Christian churches, they managed to keep many of them in good shape, they transformed the temple by sealing the wall and building a door. like the temple of Portuno it was in fact transformed into a church and entitled to the church of Santa Maria d'Egypt. many other temples were changed and it is very likely that many temples are still found. As we can see, the Romans synthesized both the Romans and the Greeks, improving them and making innovations that are still used today. and thanks to the Christian church we have many temples standing after more than two centuries.
