Topic > Music in the classroom - 646

Music is one of the school specialties that can be implemented in the classroom. From kindergarten through fifth grade, music can be used in the classroom to teach students about daily curriculum. There are several ways a teacher can implement music into classroom lessons. Some of these ways are to create songs or find creative songs on YouTube or other music websites. As a future educator it is my job to use a variety of teaching methods and one of these methods should be the application of music in my lessons. Teaching music is not an easy task. It is difficult to teach songs to children, especially if they are used in the daily curriculum. I think there are several methods teachers can use when teaching music to students. One of these few methods is piece and chain. This is where you start with one part of the song, model it, ask the children to repeat it and then do the second part of the song and ask the children to repeat that too. Then, after you have shaped the two parts of the song, put them together and sing both. Piece and chain is a good method to use to make sure everyone in the class understands the lyrics of the song. As a future teacher I will definitely use the piece and chain method when teaching a song in my class. Another method is to maintain a steady pace. When there is a consistent rhythm everyone feels comfortable and learning can take place. When music is used as a teaching tool, the most important element is constant rhythm. Students will look to you as the teacher to keep the pace consistent. An example of how to keep the tempo consistent is to play an instrumental version of the song while teaching the lyrics. In kindergarten and first grade music is an important part of school... middle of paper... right now age appropriate level and song kids will enjoy. It will be my job to convince my students that music is beautiful and that when I create songs I don't include a lot of movement. As a future educator it will be difficult to include music in the daily school curriculum, but with the variety of methods it should be easier. Using the Chunk and Chain method will be the most useful method in my classroom. This allows me to make sure all my students understand the lyrics to the song, and if I need to repeat a line multiple times, I can do so. Music can be implemented in the classroom during silent reading or during a science lesson. I plan to use music during my classroom lessons. I learn best when you give me a catchy melody to remember, so I'm sure my students will love a catchy melody to remember. Music is an important key element for learning.
