The next disciple to be called was Andrew, Peter's brother. Like Peter, Andrew's work was in the fishing industry. He was simply the average fisherman, fishing from early morning until it was too dark or too late to continue fishing. Matthew 4:18 confirms that the two brothers (Simon Peter and Andrew) were fishing together when Jesus told them to join him. What, I wonder, was Andrew's individual response to Jesus' strange invitation? The Bible states that he followed Jesus, but it says even more specifically in Matthew 4:20 that he followed him immediately or “immediately.” What made Andrew suddenly leave his job, his life and his family to follow this man? All he knew was that Jesus was truly the Son of the living God and that was all he needed to know. He immediately obeyed Jesus and left everything that had mattered to him.
