Program TypeSPARK is a health, wellness and exercise program that *helps schools nationwide by visiting them and establishing health and exercise programs for use by students and teachers. SPARK serves grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Among their many programs, there is a physical education program for middle school children called M-span, aimed at children between the ages of 11 and 13, although this age range can vary at times as a child can be retained at school. children tend to be mostly overweight. Childhood obesity has nearly doubled in the last 30 years (gov). In 2010, nearly 18 percent of children ages 6 to 11 were obese. Therefore, since they spend most of their time in school, children need some sort of school program that helps them maintain a healthy weight. SPARK is a program that will go beyond implementing a physical education lesson three times a week.
