This is a big deal for them since the Billboard Hot 100 is one of the two most important music charts in the United States of America. And recently, Psy's "Gangnam Style" became the most-liked and most-viewed YouTube video of all time, currently garnering nearly 2 billion views. He also became the first East Asian artist to top the UK charts. This video has become so viral that you could search for more than a million covers of dances and songs from different countries around the world. These Korean songs have become hit songs around the world thanks to social media. The Korean music industries are focusing on using social media as a means to achieve the global fame they enjoy today. Korean pop music, also known as K-Pop, has struggled to enter the global music scene but has managed to make it because of social media. Dal Yong Jin explains that K-Pop underwent a huge change in late 2007 due to the advancement of social media. Korea has also made innovations in social networking sites (SNS) and smartphones that have played a role in the globalization of K-Pop (6). In recent decades, Asian music, including K-Pop, has difficulty entering the global scene because it is completely dominated by Western culture. Artists have always considered the United States of America and Europe as the ideal place to promote their music. However, reaching the global market is difficult for artists who don't have enough money to promote themselves abroad. If it were... middle of paper... a sharing engine that spread its content globally, it would not have achieved the popularity it has today. Social media has given people more power to choose what they want to listen to or watch online. There will be no time when updates appear in their News Feed about a movie they aren't interested in. They will also no longer listen to songs on the radio that they don't like. People are becoming more and more responsible for themselves. If they wanted to become famous and were talented, they could upload videos online and sponsor themselves on social media. Just like the strategies that K-Pop has adopted using social media as its main promotional tool and making sure it is distinct from other music genres that people are used to listening to, success will no longer be that far away..
