My essay is about the effect of terrorism or acts of terror on children in a society. I chose this topic because it is not only important to me but, if brought to the attention of the government and the general public, will help the future of a nation. The current acts of terrorism in Nigeria and the abduction of over 200 girls (boys) in the country, which has now become an international issue, will be the focus of my speech. The Federal Republic of Nigeria is a country on the African continent, comprising 36 states and its federal capital territory, Abuja. Nigeria is often referred to as “the giant of Africa” due to its large population and economy, an oil-rich nation with an estimated population of 174,507,539 million people, of which 10.61% are said to be made up as children due to the high fertility rate in the country. the country. The country is inhabited by over 500 ethnic groups and is divided roughly in half between Christians who live mainly in the southern and central part and Muslims who are concentrated in the north. The country has experienced a civil war in the past (1967-1970), which led to the loss of human lives, both young and old, and left scars of terror/fear in the hearts of people and society. However, the recent insurgency in the country has left it in a heightened state of insecurity and has drawn the attention of the international community. Terrorism refers only to those violent acts intended to create fear (terror) that are perpetrated for religious, political, or ideological objectives and deliberately target or ignore the safety of non-combatants. The war against terrorism in Nigeria began in 2002, when the northeast-based Islamic jihadist and takfiri terrorist group called "Boko Haram" launched...... middle of paper ......d of a pastor (my mother) in Nigeria. The attacks mainly target women and Christians, the kidnapped girls are mostly Christians. I fear that if it is not contained, the lives of Christian women in Nigeria, including my mother's, will be in danger. While in Nigeria I noticed that security awareness compared to here in the US is relatively low. My father was a soldier and worked in USA will be a part of my resource to help/contribute to make life and future possible for Nigerian children. I am now motivated to start a charity for children in nations affected by terrorism. I will involve my mother on the religious point to help bring these children back to God and use my father's security knowledge to better understand the situation. Children should not be left to face and live with the scars of terrorist acts without help.
