Topic > Facebook and Negative Feelings - 1911

Facebook was developed by Mark Zuckerberg who was in college when he created this social media networking site. Zuckerberg's intentions were very different from what we expected and were used to. Facebook has allowed several sites and partner websites to access your private information such as interests, location, and age. It has also allowed many users to cyberbully others and not face subsequent consequences. Many Facebook users suffer from depression, sadness, anger, jealousy and many other negative feelings. Facebook has caused privacy interference, behavioral issues, and an overall unsafe environment for its users. Facebook was designed to connect people and share social media. “Zuckerberg wanted to create an environment where you could send messages, share pictures, look at other people's pictures, share videos and links, and have ongoing conversations with each other. This way, people can stay connected to each other regardless of their physical location” (ehow.com). Instead, Facebook has become a worldwide problem and is slowly draining the lives of its users. The social media site is causing a lot of dismay among its users and causing an unnecessary hindrance in the lives of its users. Facebook's intentions seemed great in theory, but when Facebook became a reality, things got worse. Facebook has the potential to be a very useful online social media source. However, there should be limits to the amount of Facebook usage. People make it their main priority when in reality they only post what they have and what they did during the day. If Facebook hadn't existed, people would have continued to do the same things every day and their lives wouldn't be... middle of paper... you run the risk of letting your children use Facebook unsupervised. If people took these proper steps to stop hate and bullying on Facebook, the rate of depression caused by social media could drastically decrease. There are many solutions to the problems caused by Facebook. It may take a lot of time and money to fix these problems, and Facebook doesn't want to waste it. But if users stopped using Facebook altogether because of these problems, the problems would be solved. Facebook would lose most of its users and then it would fix the problems but it would already be too late. People believe it's no big deal if this doesn't happen to them and that's not fair to the people who suffer. They don't see all the problems Facebook has because they haven't experienced them. Facebook has become and is still becoming a very bad idea.
