Literature reviewInfluence of the media on adolescentsThe adolescent phase needs to be the subject of research, as preliminary research suggests that in the adolescent phase of life important social aspects are noticed and formed, especially by the way of media, while the use of the family to obtain social information or influence decreases (Arnett, 1995). In researching the effects of media on adolescents' views of relationships, one must first research whether scholars have already studied and answered whether media has any relationship or effect on adolescents. In research on the influence of media on adolescents, it has been found that there are five uses of media by adolescents, including entertainment, thrills, coping, identity formation, and identification with youth culture (the last two uses will be highlighted later in this article). ) (Arnett, 1995). Thus the use of media by adolescents for a variety of purposes is evident and has long been established. Furthermore, research suggests that U.S. adolescents spend six to seven hours per day using media, with half of that time spent on television/movies (L'Engle, Brown, & Kenneavy, 2006). Furthermore, many studies have found that heavy television/movie viewing is positively related to effects on an individual's beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions (Shrum, Wyer, & O'Guinn, 2009). Professor and researcher Dr. George Gerbner coined and introduced cultivation theory into this communicative conversation. Cultivation theory is defined as the “independent contributions that television and film viewing make to viewers' conceptions of social reality (Gerbner, 1998). Cultivation theory describes and has both built a research platform in this area and demonstrated that I… halfway through the paper… reviewed the transcripts after each session was completed, then reviewed and analyzed the transcripts . By analyzing the transcripts, I was able to find recurring answers and extremely different answers, extremely important answers for analyzing the gender part of my research. After reviewing the transcripts, I then categorized and reported my findings based on my research questions, using a deductive approach. This means that once I grouped the data, I looked for similarities and differences to answer my research questions and test my hypothesis. I used interview notes and transcripts to coin definitions for each category and narrative theme. I will then code all 6 interviews based on the resulting definitions. Additionally, in conducting this research, I discovered and noted suggestions for further research in this conversation.
