Our team worked well together from our first meeting until our last. We first determined our roles on the team based on our interests and then, if we didn't get our ideal role, we chose what was left to choose. My role was that of a social worker, which was my first choice. When I took the Parker Team Player Survey on myself, the results came back that I was a contributor. However, when my teammate Ann, who was the team's speech therapist, did the survey on me, it turned out that I was a contributor. I found this quite interesting because when I did it the survey contributor came back last. According to the survey, my teammate Ann viewed me as task-oriented and as someone who pushed the team to set high performance standards by using my resources wisely. I saw myself as more goal-oriented, more flexible and open to new ideas. There was someone on our team who fit every role in the survey and I think that's what helped us be so well balanced. We determined the tasks based on the roles we were playing in most of our meetings. This seemed to make more sense and allowed us to move forward in an orderly manner. At each meeting, I always had the feeling that we had made progress towards the tasks we had been assigned and that each of us fit well into our roles. We began our first meeting by talking to parents about their concerns to confirm whether they still had the same concerns expressed in their initial meeting according to our case study. Each team member asked questions based on their experience and also discussed the results of their findings in the initial assessment. The parents didn't get along but, as a team, I felt we did a great job of addressing their concerns despite their hostility towards each other. In our second meeting, we managed to fill… half the paper… and Leigh got leadership roles that were very positive for the group as a whole. I played the social worker and I think particularly in the early meetings where we discussed the families' concerns, I played an important role, especially addressing the fathers' concerns about money and medical bills. Knowing that by playing the social worker it would likely be my role to address these issues was my motivation for wanting the role as I have personal experience with both which allowed me to speak from experience. I learned that being part of a team all focused on the task at hand is a great team to be a part of, it also helped that we each had different styles of the team members we brought into the group which helped keep us in balance. Overall, I felt like we made great progress in each meeting and I think we accomplished our task and we all worked very well together.
