Many things can contribute to boys and girls being portrayed differently and sometimes unfairly. Between media and words or sentences, everyone can discriminate another gender role. In doing so, many companies have used gender representation as a tool for advertising and other useful techniques. The media, advertising, and phrases all provide credence to the portrayal of certain gender roles. The media is one of the most influential ways to control people's minds. It can be good or bad for your brain's thoughts. The media portrays women as beautiful, elegant women who stay at home all day in a beautiful neighborhood and a wonderful house. Then she greets her children and husband in the morning with a good fulfilling meal and the children and husband go to school and work. Mom then cleans and cooks all day and prepares an elaborate dinner where her entire family eats and discusses their day. That would be a great way to look at it, but not all of that is true. “70% of women work and provide for their families as do their husbands” (US Bureau of Labor Statistics). It is a proven fact that the more children watch TV, the more likely they are to create an image of this “fantastic” world that the media portrays. Girls are taught to always worry about beauty, makeup and jewelry. This is creating an image in their head that it's normal to obsess over these types of things. Additionally, kids are taught to be sports junkies who get dirty and play video games all day. Then they grow up thinking that it's okay to do those activities on a daily basis, and if they don't, they consider themselves outsiders. “In everything from advertising, to television programming, to newspapers and magazines, to comic books, to popular music, to movies and video games, women and girls… middle of the paper… end of the stick. They are usually the sex-hungry thieves who rob a bank or gas station. Even words or sentences are ways to reach a man. They are generally crude remarks that question a man's manhood. Phrases like "grow a couple", are directly aimed at a man's virility. That sentence calls into question whether he is a man or not. In that case, the people who tell him that are basically calling him a girl. They say he needs to man up and do whatever they're talking about because a normal man would do it, so you don't have to be so much of a man. Men and women always compare and contrast each other. Many different sources show and describe gender roles such as media, advertising, and words or phrases. They all specify a genre and master the techniques used through marketing and entertainment to benefit their product and production.
