Medieval synthesis refers to people's understanding that allowed them to see the universe as an orderly place. These understandings relate to the religious and philosophical aspects of the world. It also refers to the sense that many of the things we live in in the modern period are things that were not actually joined together in perfect harmony. This synthesis between society and church constitutes a vision of what is called medieval synthesis. Classical thought was synthesized and re-proposed through the contributions and ideas of Peter Abelard, St. Thomas Aquinas, Dante and Chartes Cathedral which influenced religious and philosophical aspects in the late Middle Ages. Religion was an important part of medieval society and the development of the medieval synthesis. An important person who contributed to this was St. Thomas Aquinas between 1225 and 1274. His “Summa Theologica” was an important element that influenced the synthesis. The Summa Theologica simply means theological synthesis. His idea presents the highest example of the medieval synthesis of faith and reason. The summary included proof of the existence of God and man. It described the relationship between the two and how a man's reconciliation with the Divine is possible through Christ. This shows that Aquinas believed the cosmological argument which shows evidence for the existence of God and his reason. Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologica also described the nature and purpose of the human being. He devoted his attention to the nature of God and his role which shows the relationship between God and man. Thomas Aquinas tried to explain the origin and purpose of the universe. He also tried to show the different roles that live in the universe and their purpose. Thomas Aquinas never doubts... middle of paper......snares while they sin like Purgatory. This is where he learned that without God there will be no faith and purity in life. This made him realize that the universe is in shape and in order. He discovered that the universe is made of the matter created by God. His writings provided several situations that lead to a great imagination of the connection between God and man. Dante discovered that the path to God lies in human life. Overall, Peter Abelard, St. Thomas Aquinas, Dante, and Chartres Cathedral showed a world that placed faith and reason at the center of man's search for truth. Their ideas and contributions helped to synthesize and reintroduce classical thought into the philosophical and religious aspects of the Middle Ages. They all said that the universe is the reason for God's existence and that through God and his will there is truth.
