Motorists die more often from texting while driving than those who drive while intoxicated. Drunk driving is very dangerous but they are still aware of what they are doing. You have to take your eyes off the road to send a text or dial a number. You need to stop texting while driving in Oklahoma and anywhere else in the world, the lives of others would be saved. The statistics across America are very high because people don't even take the opportunity to not think clearly about what they are doing. There are Oklahoma laws that have been put in place but not to ban texting while driving, they are still trying and will not stop. It's a win-or-lose situation that puts many people at risk. This is a huge ongoing problem and hopefully one day it will be banned across America and elsewhere in the world. Texting while driving should be banned in all states that have not yet banned it, including Oklahoma. Distracted drivers are the leading cause of car accidents in America. (“Texting During a Driving Accident”) This means that people feel the need to pick up their phone just to reply to a simple text message and the next thing that happens is someone's life could be taken . As a result, more than 3,000 car accidents occasionally occur due to texting while driving. (Van Wey) Oklahoma is one of 9 states that have not yet banned texting while operating a vehicle. (South) The senator believes the reason Oklahoma has not yet banned texting while driving is because new technology allows people to speak texts and essentially tell our phone what to do without taking our eyes off the phone.
