Questions about duty and power often cloud our minds and convince us that doubting means we have already given up. But the commonality of doubt needs to be expressed more often rather than silenced and avoided. If we wish to pursue an ambition, any ambition, we should constantly ask ourselves why and accept the answer that lies deep within us. This answer may come late in life, or perhaps it has already given us the confidence to move forward. In any case, we should not be afraid to raise our hand and declare that we are left in the dark and need a helping hand. Professionals like Eli Y. Adashi, MD, MS push us towards the light. “Is there more to a medical degree than meets the traditional eye? Is it all it can be? Are the current aspirations of those who earn it commensurate with current needs and opportunities? Are medical students exposed to the unconventional, let alone encouraged to explore it?” ("JAMA Forum"). These are the questions we should ask ourselves when we reach the crossroads in our individual journeys. As we stand at the crossroads of life, we should be able to take a breath and respond confidently when asked, “Where do I go from here??"
